Network Engineering Director plans, designs, and develops all aspects of network systems that will meet an organization's requirements for performance, security, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Identifies network requirements for hardware, software, and services that will provide optimal solutions and meet the capacity requirement for the organization. Being a Network Engineering Director directs network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies. Develops monitoring, maintenance, expansion, contingency, and recovery plans and strategies to ensure the network is responsive to changes in demand. Additionally, Network Engineering Director keeps abreast with the latest technologies and best practices and utilizes vendors and providers to provide additional resources to support networks. Usually is certified and has deep knowledge of vendor-specific products. Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. Broad knowledge of infrastructure and systems to include, but not limited to: LAN/WAN/Internet configurations to include all switching and components
Server/system configurations to include physical, virtual, and hosted environments
Wireless components to include access points and controller
User devices to include tablets, laptops, and desktops utilizing Microsoft and Apple OS/iOS.
Various application software and systems used by the district
Bachelor’s degree with five years of progressively responsible experience, in various technologies
and system management
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Experience in providing staff development in the operation and use of technology and various applications
Skill in correlating technology utilization with the needs of the district
Skill in interpersonal relations with various publics
Outstanding references from current and former supervisors
Satisfactory SLED (SC Law Enforcement Division) report

Purpose Statement:
The job of Director of Network Engineering is done for the purpose/s of developing and monitoring computer network and operations to meet the technology needs of the district; resolving related operational issues; and supporting site location network operations.
