Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager. This includes changing molds, feeders, shields, etc- Clean and maintain , sample lock valves, sample taker, and swivel feed-thru equipment to minimize the possibility of leaks and failures- Learn to operate helium leak detectors and assist requirements- Learn to operate the lid cleaning backhoe- Inspect hearths, endblocks, molds, and dovetail puller assemblies regularly during clean-outs and / or after they are removed from a melting campaign- Install fittings, plugs, piping, etc.
on new molds, stainless steel hoses, shields, and hearth assemblies as required to get new or repaired equipment ready for installation.
Leak check as thoroughly as possible before installation- Make repairs to the vibrating feeder assembly. Replace components (, O-ring seals, hoses, etc.
to minimize the possibility of unscheduled failures- Clean and make repairs to condensate screens as required to meet quality standards- Recommend modifications to improve reliability and productivity of - Fabricate / install modifications as authorized.
Work with management to develop solutions to recurring problems. Follow solutions and modifications through to installation.
Follow up to evaluate the effectiveness of the action taken.- Periodically review mechanical parts and supplies inventory levels as assigned and submit recommendations for appropriate inventory quantities.
