Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager. Education and Experience:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. JCAHPO certified or 2-3 years experience as an ophthalmic technician

Job Description:
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Medical history taking, visual acuity testing; keratometry, visual fields, tonometry, Optos, A-Scans, corneal topography, lensometry, manifest refraction and OCT scanning.
Hospital surgery scheduling.
Knowledge of refractive laser procedures and Refractive Counselor duties.
Assist physician with minor surgery and laser procedures.
Must be available to work in Pleasanton and Livermore offices.
