PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Outreach Specialist is responsible for identifying and reaching out to youth who are experiencing homelessness, have runaway, and are or at risk of being exploited on the streets as well as through contact with other service providers. Outreach is done through both van and foot in targeted areas in Atlanta. The Outreach Specialist works directly with outreach volunteers and CHGA youth to support CHGAs outreach efforts. In addition, Outreach specialist assists in crisis intervention on the streets and referral work with those needing services and to advocate on their behalf.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Exercise and role model healthy verbal and non-verbal communication

Employ milieu management techniques to heighten safety, promote structure and help residents learn healthier ways of thinking, interacting, and behaving independently and/or in group settings.

Attend and participate all scheduled or mandatory meetings, trainings and supervision sessions as requested
-
Adhere to all confidentiality requirements and standards
-
Support and partner with the Outreach Volunteers

Ensure that CHGA is reaching its target populations of youths on the streets
-
Attend and participate in all scheduled or mandatory meetings, trainings and supervision sessions as requested
-
Join agency committee of choice
-
Provide crisis intervention services to youth on the streets of Atlanta
-
Collaborate with other service providers in the community
-
Advocate for youth and make referrals to appropriate services
-
Complete all necessary documentation for ETO, HMIS within 24-48 hours, and monthly/quarterly reporting.

Assume RA responsibilities in the agency as needed.

Maintain outreach materials
-
Communicate with supervisor, on-call supervisor, and shelter coordinator regarding outreach crisis situations.

Maintain statistical data for program outcomes and complete monthly reports
-
Meet with supervisor for weekly supervision and as needed
-
Experience in managing and coaching volunteers. Conduct trainings with outreach volunteers.

Coordinate outreach and outreach volunteer calendar
-
Provide support, encouragement and direction to youth, peers, and volunteers
-
Participate in other CHGA programs and activities as required
-
Perform all other tasks as requested

Ability to:

lift and move items typically weighing 5-35 pounds

drive agency or personal vehicles to transport items and/or persons (valid State of Georgia license required)

models appropriate, professional behavior for staff to establish and maintain superior services to youth in a safe and inviting atmosphere

ensure that the environment is safe and free from any conditions that may cause harm or danger to youth, staff, volunteers, or visitors

ensures compliance of files in accordance to specific city, state and Federal guidelines
-
performs all other duties as assigned
Work Environment/Physical Demands:

Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.

Ability to work standing, walking, and/or sitting a minimum of 8 hours per day/shift.

Ability to drive agency or personal vehicles to transport items and/or persons.

Valid Georgia Drivers License with acceptable driving record.

Ability to travel as needed for training or to fulfill job requirements.

Annual tuberculin test is required
SUPERVISORY DUTIES: None.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelors Degree in Social Work or related field or relevant outreach experience. Sufficient health, ability, experience, and education to perform the assigned duties with or without accommodation. Counseling experience working with youth experiencing homelessness preferred.
