  • DESCRIPTION: School Psychologists support students’ learning, social development, and mental and behavioral health using problem solving, assessment, data-based decision-making, and the delivery of evidenced-based interventions. School psychologists collaborate and consult with educators, families, and other professionals to help create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students. GENERAL DUTIES: Apply their knowledge of both psychology and education through consultation and collaboration with teachers, school administrators, parents, and community providers Conduct psychological assessments and interpret results for students and participate in IEP conferences, team meetings, and problem-solving meetings. Identify and assess the learning, development, and behavior of students, and use assessment data to develop written reports and plans that state appropriate interventions and programs that support the teaching process. Conduct cognitive, social-emotional/behavioral testing and write reports to report out at student meetings. Participate in effective data-based decision-making using a foundation of assessment and data collection Engage in specific services for students, such as direct and indirect interventions that focus on academic skills, learning, socialization, and mental health Provide services to schools and families that enhance the competence and well-being of children, including promotion of effective and safe learning environments, prevention and remediation of academic and behavioral problems, response to crises, and improvement of family–school collaboration Provide collaborative and consultative services to classroom teachers and direct services through a variety of methods (e.g. classroom presentations, individual and group counseling, in-services to staff/parents, etc.) as needed. Groups may include social skills groups, anger management groups, and mindfulness groups, as well as other group work as needed. Participate in IEP initial, reevaluation, Manifestation Determination, and other student-centered meetings to determine initial eligibility, reevaluation eligibility, as well as find the best combination of educational programs and other services for each school-aged child with special needs. Provide individual, group, and family therapy per IEP requirements Function as part of the Student Support Team to collaboratively provide a multi-tiered system of support through implementation and monitoring of evidence-based behavioral and academic interventions for all students in need Understand and implement federal, state, and local laws, policies, regulations, procedures, and protocols including the implications of liability and requirements of due process. Oversees the referral process, Team Meeting process, and adherence to the Individual Education Programs based on eligibility guidelines and in accordance with Federal and State requirements and is responsible for seeing that all timelines are met and all required paperwork is completed. Participate in related school meetings which are held for the purpose of improving both curricular and extracurricular activities. Provide case management, including coordination of testing and monitoring of student progress. Assist in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs to provide an effective educational program for students. Adhere to the ethical standards of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education programs. Participate in activities that promote professional development and use clinical/educational research to enhance therapy services. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
