The Pharmacy Buyer ensures adequate levels of drugs and supplies are available in the inpatient and outpatient pharmacies and that purchases do not exceed budget. Liaisons between buyers and manufacturer's representatives to ensure that the organization purchases pharmaceuticals, supplies and equipment that meet quality standards while minimizing costs. Being a Pharmacy Buyer requires certification as a pharmacy technician and licensure from the State Board of Pharmacy. Requires a high school diploma. In addition, Pharmacy Buyer typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Years of experience may be unspecified. Some of the things you will do as a Buyer- Buying products that are produced by outside vendors.
- Responsible for negotiating and purchasing materials, supplies and equipment with vendors.
- Support inquiries from internal departments so that external customers are provided all the information needed for purchasing considerations.
- Obtains and analyzes bids in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Initiate and maintain all purchase orders, blanket purchase orders, contracts, and other related purchasing documents including the maintenance of the computer database.
- Review acknowledgements for agreement with purchase orders and resolve any discrepancies with the supplier to the best possible advantage for the company.
- Follow-up and expedite orders as necessary to meet schedules.
- Provide leadership in driving cost reductions and cost control measures with proper documentation.
- Use appropriate processes and procedures to support production activities and Quality System standards.
- Assist in inventory control measures as needed.
What education and experience you will bring to HCL- Four year degree in Business, or equivalent education or experience
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in direct purchasing functions or equivalent work experience
- Minimum two (2) years of negotiation and quoting experience
- Good MRP/ERP experience. Experience with Epicor P21 preferred.
- Understanding of compliance regulations (GMP, FDA, DEA, Customs, USP, etc.).
- Understanding of patent process.
- Knowledge of inventory procedures and controls
- Ability to be a strong team player
- Good people, organization, and communication skills; both verbal and written
