SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF JOB
This position is responsible for surveillance and improvement of the pharmacy's procurement processes for pharmaceuticals. This includes review of the pharmacy's procurement order, placing orders for the pharmacy to approved vendors, preparing pharmacy purchasing reports, communicating with the pharmacy staff on purchasing issues, sourcing of products when primary items are not available, auditing invoice date for accuracy and other designated pharmacy functions. The pharmacy buyer will also be performing designated tasks and duties relative to purchasing any supplies needed by the pharmacy, updating all drug prices in the pharmacy formulary manager, process and maintain all invoices including all electronic controlled substance invoices. The pharmacy buyer will also need to be knowledgeable and ensure compliance with the new Drug Supply Chain Security Act requirements effective November 2015.
The buyer will need to perform basic pharmacy operation duties which includes but not limited to prepackaging unit dose preparations, Pyxis refilling and management, medication outdate inspections, stocking nutrition supplements and tube feedings and front counter duties as needed.

Additionally, understands that every employee is responsible for exhibiting exceptional customer service by answering call lights on the nursing unit and if not able to assist personally, will inform the appropriate employee regarding the patient's need.

Requires knowledge of and familiarity with medical and drug terminology, drug products, location of stock and supplies, etc. Requires knowledge of procedures for pre-packaging machine and maintaining necessary records. Requires knowledge of procedures for writing credits for returned medication and location of stock. Requires knowledge of procedures for taking inventory; and maintaining narcotic records, prescriptions, etc. Requires the ability to interpret drug orders for Pyxis interface and knowledge of procedures for filling Pyxis. Bilingual capability
(Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Pharmacy buyer experience preferred. Position requires the utilize computer systems.
