The Pharmacy Buyer ensures adequate levels of drugs and supplies are available in the inpatient and outpatient pharmacies and that purchases do not exceed budget. Liaisons between buyers and manufacturer's representatives to ensure that the organization purchases pharmaceuticals, supplies and equipment that meet quality standards while minimizing costs. Being a Pharmacy Buyer requires certification as a pharmacy technician and licensure from the State Board of Pharmacy. Requires a high school diploma. In addition, Pharmacy Buyer typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Years of experience may be unspecified. Inova Health System is seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Buyer to join the team. This role will be full-time Monday – Friday, day shift.

- Ensures that pricing, availability, and approximate delivery dates are given to end-users daily or at the time of ordering.
- Reconciles pharmaceutical purchases for pre-payment statements while providing usage reports for customers .
- Updates the Primary Vendor Information System and verifies and submits invoices to Accounts Receivable.
- Processes out of date item returns via contract agents in a timely manner, processes credit to prime vendor weekly, and processes all received items to their designated location within Pharmacy daily.
- Orders controlled substances via C-II safe estimates or other modes while utilizing DEA guidelines.
- Ensures that accurate report information regarding products, pricing and usage are supplied to end-users as requested and ensures that all recall information is communicated to the appropriate departments and/or other personnel as needed.
- Work schedule: 40-hour/week (Monday – Friday, day shift).
- Education: High School or GED.
- Experience: Two (2) year of buying experience in a Pharmacy.
- Certification: Certified Pharmacy Technician in the state of Virginia
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of hire.
