The Police Officer is responsible for responding to calls, taking necessary action at the scene of crime or disturbance, conducting investigations, making arrests, testifying in court, and completing reports/forms and routine paperwork. Responsible for patrolling an assigned area to prevent and discover crime and to enforce regulations. Being a Police Officer typically reports to a Police Sergeant. Requires an associate's degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 12 to 18 months of law enforcement experience. Working as a Police Officer typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Position: Police Officer
Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the Police Officer is responsible for maintain order, enforcing federal, state and local laws and ordinances, and protecting life and property within the city. The Police Officer patrols the City in patrol vehicles and on foot to prevent violence or infraction of applicable laws; issues traffic summons, investigates accidents, apprehends and arrests suspects. The Police Officer searches for, collects, identifies evidence at crime sense, examines/compiles information for cases, arrests violators of laws and ordinances, investigates and intervenes in domestic disputes, guards/transports prisoners, conducts interviews, answers citizen complaints and takes necessary corrective action, assists other law enforcement agencies, directs traffic as necessary and other duties as assigned.
The employee is expected to have a high school diploma or equivalent, a current driver’s license with a good driving record; applicants must be 21 years of age. KLETC certification and prior law enforcement experience preferred but not needed at time of application.

Starting pay $17.00 an hour (no experience)plus benefits of health, dental and eye coverage
If applicant has experience (academy certified) starting pay is negotiable depending on experience.
