The Police Officer is responsible for responding to calls, taking necessary action at the scene of crime or disturbance, conducting investigations, making arrests, testifying in court, and completing reports/forms and routine paperwork. Responsible for patrolling an assigned area to prevent and discover crime and to enforce regulations. Being a Police Officer typically reports to a Police Sergeant. Requires an associate's degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 12 to 18 months of law enforcement experience. Working as a Police Officer typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Patrols district property to protect all students, personnel, and visitors from physical harm and prevent property loss due to theft or vandalism. Support and promote healthy relationships to ensure a safe learning and teaching environment. Act as a resource to students, staff members, and the community to provide guidance in law enforcement matters. Establish healthy relationships to ensure that first responders at all jurisdictional levels and across all disciplines work together effectively and efficiently. Enforces all laws including municipal ordinances, county ordinances, and state laws.
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Texas Peace Officer License issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
General knowledge of criminal investigation, police report writing, and criminal laws
Training and ability to subdue offenders, including use of firearms and handcuffs
Bonded as required by Texas Education Code §37.081(h)
Ability to pass required physical, psychiatric, and drug tests
Ability to work well with youth and adults
Experience:
Background in law enforcement or related work experience
