    Role: Public Order Training Police Sergeant

    Applications are sought from substantive Police Sergeants who are currently Level 2 PSU trained for the role of Public Order Training Police Sergeant.

    The role holder will be responsible for the management and co-ordination of the development and delivery of public order training for the force. This will include a variety of Public Order/Specialist Operations training and related tasks. The role holder will be trained as a Public Order Public Safety Advisor.

    The role holder will successfully complete (or have already completed) the National Public Order Coaching Course.

    Any role holder that has not already completed the National Public Order Coaching Course will be expected to attain a new teaching qualification namely the Trainer Essential Programme which will consist of three, one week - long courses on dates around the April/May time 2024. This must be completed prior to attending the National Public Order Coaching Course.

    The next National Public Order Coaching Course commences on Monday the 17th of June 2024 for 3 weeks.

    The role holder will attain a Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training.

    The role holder will attain the assessor qualification in order to oversee assessment processes.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics ensuring that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly understood and considered by managers, officers and staff in their decision making and actions, reinforcing and influencing them through all interactions and processes.
    • To train, develop and assess students in the application of operational Public Order tactics to fulfil and comply with organisational, regional, and nationally mandated requirements.
    • Manage resources and professional development to improve and maximise organisational performance and achieve individual and Force objectives, ensuring optimum use of resources in relation to the delivery of public order / specialist operations training.
    • To oversee the research, design, plan and delivery of training packages for within the force and regionally. This includes the review of existing working practices and making appropriate recommendations to partner agencies in order to promote our training products.
    • To manage and co-ordinate the deployment of resources during the training calendar, ensuring that force policy, procedures and relevant legislations are complied with.
    • To maintain knowledge, skills and understanding of each tactic in line with the mandated requirements.
    • To represent the Force at meetings with internal and external contacts acting as an expert providing professional advice and guidance in relation to specialist operations.
    • To ensure that all reports and documents relating to training delivery are stored securely by the most appropriate means in order to comply with the code of ethics and the purpose and values of South Yorkshire Police
    • Conduct health and safety risk assessments commensurate with their portfolio.
    • To perform other duties as required and where trained

    To apply applicants must:

    • Be in ticket for Level 2 PSU training
    • Be in ticket for JRFT to 6.3
    • Be in ticket for personal safety training
    • Be in ticket for First aid

    Desirable:

    • Be a Public Order Public Safety Trainer
    • Hold a teaching qualification at a minimum level 3
    • Be a trained and accredited POPSA
    • Be a qualified assessor

    To be eligible to transfer you must:

    • Be a current serving police officer in a Home Office Force
    • Have no outstanding discipline or integrity issues.
    • Have resided in the UK for three years immediately prior to submitting your application.
    • Must have successfully completed your probationary period with your Force prior to submitting your application.
