Professor - Special Education teaches courses in the discipline area of special education. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Special Education provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Special Education typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     OCDE's Special Education Services Division provides functional instruction for students between the ages of 3 and 22 who have been identified as needing intensive educational services. The Program's goals with provided services is to emphasize the teaching of skills that are functional and critical to the needs of these students and are aligned to California State Standards.

    Requirements / Qualifications:
    Education and Experience: 
    • Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
    • Bachelor's Degree or higher from a regionally-accredited college.
    Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements:
    • Must possess or be eligible for a valid California Public School Nursing Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. 
    • Must possess a valid Registered Nurse License issued by the state of California. 
    • Valid CPR Provider and Instructor Card, preferred.
    • ASL skills highly preferred or willingness to learn.

    Compensation & Benefits:
    • $342.39-$611.97 205 days/12 months.
    • 12 sick days annually.

    • Employee plus employer contribution into CA Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) or CA State Teachers' Retirement System. (CalSTRS)
