Public Transportation Inspector inspects and compiles information concerning activities and conduct of employees on public railroads, streetcars, and buses and submits written reports of findings.   • School Bus Assistant- To assist in providing safe transportation of special needs students to and from designated locations. 

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned.

    The following tasks are typical for positions in this classification.  Any single position may not perform all of these tasks and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed here:

    • Operation of lifts for wheelchairs and assisting disabled students.
    • Maintains good student conduct on the bus.
    • Secures special equipment that may accompany the student.
    • Is alert to any conditions in the loading and unloading area which present a danger    to students.
    • Communicates in an appropriate fashion with students, parents and employees.
    • Knowledge of the order of student stops to assist with pick up and drop off

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Supervises students while being transported on a school bus.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED).  Able to pass standard physical examination (renewed every 24 months) and drug screen.

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

     

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

     

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

    Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students.  Ability to obtain and maintain current first aid/CPR certification and ability to complete training on providing transportation as a related service to students with disabilities.  Ability to physically manage students and equipment.  Ability to observe unusual student behavior and advise supervisor.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

    The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where the voice must be raised to be heard.
