Renal Dialysis Director directs the staff and programs of the renal dialysis department. Organizes and coordinates inpatient and outpatient dialysis services and operations. Being a Renal Dialysis Director develops and introduces approved standards and guidelines for dialysis operations and programs. Monitors quality of care, compliance, and data collection and leads quality improvement initiatives. Additionally, Renal Dialysis Director oversees the professional development of staff and educational support programs for patients. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Renal Dialysis Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. The Acute Dialysis Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the dialysis treatment while maintaining the safety and well-being of the patient.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to determine their dialysis needs and establish individualized treatment plans.
    • Hemodialysis/Peritoneal Dialysis: Administer hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis treatments according to established protocols and standards.
    • Medication Administration: Administer medications and monitor the patient's response, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
    • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about the dialysis process, medications, diet, and lifestyle modifications to optimize renal health.
    • Fluid Management: Monitor fluid balance and adjust dialysis treatments to manage fluid overload or depletion.
    • Vascular Access Care: Assess, maintain, and monitor vascular access sites to ensure safe and efficient dialysis delivery.
    • Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to dialysis-related emergencies and provide life-saving interventions when needed.
    • Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely patient records, documenting all aspects of the dialysis procedure and patient progress.
    • Collaboration: Collaborate with the healthcare team, including physicians, surgeons, and other medical professionals, to ensure seamless patient care.
    • Infection Control: Follow strict infection control protocols to prevent dialysis-related infections and maintain a clean, sterile environment.
    • Quality Assurance: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure adherence to all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
    • Professional Development: Stay current with advancements in renal care by attending training and continuing education programs.

    Qualifications:

    • Current RN license in the state of practice.
    • BLS and ACLS certification.
    • At least 1-2 years of experience as a dialysis nurse.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
    • Ability to travel between hospitals throughout the Portland / Vancouver area.
    • Ability to work long days when needed.
    • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing dialysis treatment.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to stand for extended periods.
    • Lifting and positioning of patients.
    • Frequent exposure to bodily fluids and chemicals.

    Working Conditions:

    The Acute Dialysis Nurse will primarily work in a hospital or acute care facility, frequently in high-pressure situations, while providing critical care to patients with renal diseases and disorders.
