Scientist - Biotech develop and conduct basic and applied research projects. Utilize advanced technologies to study biological, molecular and chemical processes. Being a Scientist - Biotech synthesize and analyze DNA, proteins and other molecules to develop new drugs, medical protocols, and products. Prepare technical papers and reports on findings. Additionally, Scientist - Biotech requires a PhD in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Scientist - Biotech typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS:
- IVD development experience (experience in allergen development is a plus) Maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theory
- - Strong Chemistry and Biochemistry techniques—Chromatography, gels, westerns, purification, antigen expression, protein conjugation, ELISA, etc.
- Initiate, direct and execute scientific research and development that is critical to corporate strategies and image as it relates to allergen development.
- Make major contributions to scientific literature and conferences.
- Interface with various departments.
- Work closely with associates for purpose of mentoring or training on Biochemistry techniques
- Contribute to the development of principles and concepts new to the field.
- Act as advisor to top management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.
Education:
Requires a PhD in a scientific discipline or a Master degree in a scientific discipline
Licenses/Certifications:
Not necessary, but would be beneficial.
Skills/Abilities:
Reading, writing, proofreading and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact well with other departments. Has full understanding of and ability to apply established principles, theories and concepts in area of responsibility, together with a working knowledge of related disciplines. Projects require familiarity with current scientific literature together with capability to select methods and techniques for obtaining solutions within broadly defined practices and procedures. May be involved in teams, which include participation from other sections and/or divisions. May provide guidance to less senior personnel. May assume leading role in providing solutions to difficult, though defined, problems associated with specific projects.
Experience:
Requires a PhD in a scientific discipline and a minimum of 3-5 years' experience or MS with 5 years' experience in a research environment. Expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts is also required.
