Soldier Township is located just north of the Topeka city limits, between 75 highway and K4 highway, and maintains over 125 miles of paved roads.

Our current work schedule is Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

ROAD FOREMAN

a) SUMMARY:

Under direction, performs work of moderate to considerable difficulty in supervising and participating in the work of a group of skilled and semi-skilled employees. Performs all other related work as required.

b) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following, other duties may be assigned. Assigns and reviews work, instructs subordinates, and participates in routine maintenance and construction work of a group of employees; supervises the operation of heavy equipment and operates heavy equipment; maintain equipment, material, and prepares related reports; trains new employees; may receive and respond to complaints from the public; may order supplies and materials when authorized.

c) SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises subordinate employees as directed by the Road Superintendent. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

d) REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

Extensive knowledge of equipment and methods used in maintenance and construction work in relation to assigned tasks, considerable knowledge of applicable work safety rules and procedures. Ability to assign and review work and instruct subordinates; ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions; ability to maintain records and prepare reports; ability to operate heavy equipment used in the assigned tasks.

e) EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED and two (2) years’ experience in maintenance and construction work or related field.

f) CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Possession of a valid Class A Kansas Commercial Driver’s License.

h) WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

i) REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

j) SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Hiring conditional upon passing drug/alcohol testing and is subject to random testing throughout employment.
