Specialty Pharmacy Technician assists a registered pharmacist with support activities and processes required to dispense high dollar/specialty medications (e.g. Oncology, Multiple Sclerosis). Collects, inputs, and verifies prescription, refill, and patient information. Being a Specialty Pharmacy Technician receives and stocks incoming supplies. May be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. Additionally, Specialty Pharmacy Technician requires a high school diploma. May require Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician works under moderate supervision. Specialty Pharmacy Services supports a growing list of patient populations, including Transplant, Hepatitis, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatology, and Oncology. Our team is dedicated to supporting our patients comprehensively throughout their entire treatment process. Specialty Pharmacy Technicians work within either the Call Center or Distribution Operations. Requirements, duties, and responsibilities align respectively. Cross coverage and movement between teams is possible dependent on departmental and patient care needs.

Senior/Intermediate/Associate Level:
The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all Pharmacy Technicians to be licensed. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which time a technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. UMHS Pharmacy Department provides coaching and additional information to support technicians to become certified and licensed.

This is a day shift position Monday through Friday with business hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Closed weekends and holidays.
This position is located at Specialty Pharmacy Services on Joy Rd in Dexter, MI.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
