Speech and Language Pathologist - Home Care assesses and treats speech and language disorders and impairments in a home care setting. Conducts evaluations of an individual's speech and language skills using applicable diagnostic materials and tools. Being a Speech and Language Pathologist - Home Care develops treatment plans that utilize appropriate intervention approaches, strategies, and materials. Establishes treatment priorities that include advising, educating, and counseling. Additionally, Speech and Language Pathologist - Home Care completes required documentation to record assessment and progress. Collaborates with physicians, family members, and other clinical providers to provide effective therapies. Ensures that treatment that is provided aligns with patient needs and is within the guidelines set by the payer. May direct support staff in assisting with treatment. Requires a master's degree in speech pathology. Typically requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Speech and Language Pathologist - Home Care's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.   • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Examines, tests, diagnoses, and administers treatments for patients with speech and language disorders, and oral motor disorders.
    • Performs evaluations with particular attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation, and auditory skills.
    • Maintains communication with patient and others concerned regarding progress, problems, home programs, and other issues related to the therapeutic process.
    • Develops, implements, and evaluates therapeutic speech and language development programs and services.
    • Provides speech articulation therapy and works with patients to develop language skills as appropriate
    • Facilitates behavior management in patients and families as appropriate to the needs of the patient: teaches parenting skills as required.
    • Maintains record of work performed.
    • Maintains equipment and supplies used as part of the therapeutic process.
    • Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
    • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    • Masters degree in speech language pathology
    • Current registration and in good standing with regulatory body (mandatory in New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan)
    • Membership with the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
    • Minimum one year experience,
    • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical/medical history
    • Required to submit to annual TB and Rubella screen
    • Must provide record of Hepatitis vaccination or declination

    COMMUNICATION SKILLS

    Ability to write routine reports and required correspondence as required by BrightStar Speech Therapist guidelines. Ability to respond professionally on behalf of BrightStar. Must be able to appropriately respond to and maintain confidential information at all times.

    BEHAVIORAL SKILLS

    Requires the ability to prioritize and complete work on time, be detail-oriented, exhibit a service orientation to both staff and clients and be a professional team player with a positive attitude. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Must possess the ability to handle confidential information and act as the BrightStar spokesperson. Must also possess the ability to respond appropriately in an objective manner in all situations. Effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the client. Requires knowledge of anatomy, physiology and/or kinesiology. Also must have the ability to evaluate and treat speech, language and hearing disorders. Must also have knowledge of relevant diagnostic tests and procedures. Must have the ability to demonstrate solid judgment and discretion. Must also demonstrate a sense of understanding and urgency for priorities. Will require the ability to appropriately troubleshoot and escalate where necessary, problems/issues to the appropriate individual. Must also have the ability to use the computer, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.

    TECHNICAL SKILLS

    Requires familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    Successful candidate must submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check and background check.

    Home environment involves possible exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following safety precautions and may include use of protective equipment.

    May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening. Ability to safely lift, and physically manipulate patients.

    Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/home environment.

    No or very limited physical effort required.

    No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
