BGS Safety and Security is responsible for the safety and security of all state facilities both owned and leased. The Security Systems Unit installs, maintains, and supports security infrastructure to include security card access, CCTV surveillance cameras, intrusion alarm systems, remote video door intercoms, network and standalone servers, and various other devices in approximately 150 buildings throughout the state including Correctional Facilities and AHS field offices.
The Security Specialist II responsibilities are a mix of project manager, system designer, program administrator, and technical expert. Due to the highly specialized and technical expertise required for this position, specialists must be able to take a new project from assessment to implementation independently. They are responsible for assessing a tenant's security needs and designing an appropriate system to mitigate threats to the employee and facility. Systems Specialists also support, maintain, and repair existing equipment.

Duties are performed in both office and field settings, outdoors and inside buildings including correctional facilities. Contact with inmates may be anticipated. Incumbents may encounter harassment or hostile behavior, and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Attendance at meetings as a representative of the Department may be required. Speaking at meetings may be necessary. Considerable travel can be expected. Some exposure to adverse climate conditions may occur. Must be able to climb ladders, lift weights up to 75 pounds, and work in cramped, wet, or poorly ventilated areas. This position may require emergency response to calls outside of regular work hours. Some potential for physical injury may be present.
High school graduation or equivalent AND four (4) years or more experience in a low voltage electrical or security systems field, including oversight of construction or renovation projects.
Associates degree or higher in relevant field.
Ability to interpret schematics and blueprint design.
Cost analysis and monitoring.
Successful candidates must pass state and federal criminal background checks.
Valid driver's license required.
