Test Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the evaluation, recommendation and implementation of testing procedures and strategies for products, systems, components, or modifications. Acts as advisor to test engineering team regarding projects, tasks, and operations and acts as a liaison to other engineering functions. Being a Test Engineering Manager ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Test Engineering Manager typically reports to a unit/department head. The Test Engineering Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Test Engineering Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Engineering Technician I or II

     

    Supports engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electro mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light transmission devices or specialized test equipment. Applications may include electronic circuits,electrical documentation of assemblies, . Ability to understand schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, receives instruction on laying out, defining, and performing perform testing/test plans, checkout and trouble-shooting functions. Understands basic  operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment. Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Assists in the design, construction, test and check-out of test equipment. Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.

     

    With minimum direction, performs a variety of experiments for Engineering and records, records, analyzes, interprets and reports results.  Also performs a wide variety of complex mechanical, chemical, electromechanical or electronic technical duties. in the fabrication, testing, debugging and documentation of assemblies, modules and systems associated with specifications, prototype products and released products, with technical manuals and engineering sketches.   Supports engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of electro-mechanical systems and/or specialized test equipment. Performs operational test and fault isolation on electro-mechanical systems and equipment.  Analyzes data and writes reports and procedures.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

     

    • Supports engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of electro-mechanical systems and/or specialized test equipment.
    • Understands schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions.  
    • Basic understanding of operational test and fault isolation on systems.   PCBA’s, electrical and electro-mechanical systems equipment.   
    • May assist in determining method or action to remedy malfunctions and repairs them accordingly.
    • May assist in the design, construction, test and check-out of test equipment.
    • Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.
    • Monitors process procedures and reports results to engineering.
    • Works closely with engineers and senior technicians.
    • Performs experiments and tests on simple assemblies, modules and systems associated with prototype products
    • Performs basic set up of equipment in a laboratory and/or manufacturing environment.
    • Audits work for accuracy and reports discrepancies to engineering.
    • Correlates and reports results and observations of testing and experiments to engineering using databases and spreadsheet computer programs.
    • Works from formal and informal written/verbal instructions, specifications, technical manuals and engineering sketches.
    • Uses and maintains a variety of test equipment.
    • Compiles, records and reports test results.
    • Works on assignments that are routine in nature, requiring limited judgment.
    • Must be a team player and be able to work in a team environment.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    REQUIRED:

    • Associate’s Degree in Engineering technology, applied electronics or similar technical discipline or 1-2 years of related experience.
    • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. 
    • Developed technical writing skills.
    • Ability to analyze data to write reports, determine failures, etc.
    • Experience Ability to use a microscope.
    • Ability to audit procedures.

     

     

    DESIRED:

    • Familiar with experimental design.
    • Ability to troubleshoot failures in product and processes relative to electrical hardware.
    • Basic working knowledge of SolidWorks
    • Basic working knowledge of AutoCAD preferably AutoCAD
