Job Description:
We are seeking a talented and experienced lawyer to join our team as Corporate Counsel with a focus on the unique legal complexities of the cannabis industry and business law. The ideal candidate will have a strong corporate law and regulatory compliance background and a passion for working in the fast-growing and evolving cannabis sector. As a key member of our legal department, the Corporate Counsel will play a critical role in guiding our company through the complex legal landscape of the cannabis industry.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of matters specific to the cannabis industry, including regulatory compliance, licensing, permitting, and government relations
- Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts and agreements, such as supply agreements, distribution agreements, and licensing agreements, while ensuring compliance with state and local cannabis regulations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement policies and procedures related to cannabis compliance, risk management, and corporate governance
- Stay informed about changes in cannabis laws and regulations, and guide the business on potential legal implications
- Manage and oversee external legal counsel when necessary, including litigation and regulatory matters
- Assist in navigating the complexities of intellectual property law as it relates to cannabis trademarks, patents, and trade secrets
- Handle compliance with advertising and marketing regulations specific to the cannabis industry
Requirements:
- Admitted to the state bar and in good standing
- 5 or more years of experience practicing law, focusing on corporate law and regulatory compliance.
- In-depth knowledge of state and local laws and regulations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience working with government agencies and regulators is a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a legal capacity within the cannabis industry
- Additional certifications or training in cannabis law, regulatory compliance, or related fields
