    The Assistant Director of Residential Life: Residential Education reports directly to the Director of Residential Life: Residential Education. As a distinctive member of Residential Life, the Assistant Director supports the educational work achieved in the residence halls by serving as Advisor to the Hall President's Council and supporting Residential Programming. The Assistant Director is responsible for the hiring process of around 300 student staff, RAs and ARs. The Assistant Director will assist with formation, development, and training for student leaders in the undergraduate residence halls. In addition, the Assistant Director functions in a tiered, emergency on-call rotation.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Residence Education: Student Staff
    • Coordinates the hiring, training and development of students employed by Residential Life, including Resident Assistants (RAs), Assistant Rectors (ARs), Hall Employees, and Senior Fellows
    • Supports the overall formation and training for student hall staff serving in residence halls
    • Create and maintain online presence for resources and materials to assist Hall Staff
    • Facilitates a senior leadership program that cultivates leadership opportunities for senior students in the residence halls rooted in the Holy Cross Mission of educating hearts and minds




    Residential Education: Programming
    • Advises Hall Presidents Council (HPC) as a primary student programming vehicle for campus-wide programming at the University
    • Executes a distinctive programming model rooted in Catholic identity, mission and values which embodies the hallmarks and pillars of the Holy Cross charism
    • Assists the Director in executing day to day office functions, managing the programming budget and communicating programming guidelines.
    • Serves as the liaison with the Student Activities Office (SAO) to ensure consistent practices between residence halls and student groups. Utilizes NDCentral, the SAO event management system, to approve residence hall events.

    Residential Education: Professional Staff
    • Oversees all In Residence positions including academic integration initiatives for residential life with the faculty in residence and hall fellows program, and the staff in residence program

    Housing On Call:
    • Serves in a tiered, emergency on-call system for the Office of Residential Life responsible for responding to student emergencies and supporting and advising Hall Staff in crisis situations

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Masters Degree with a preference for a degree in Higher Education, Student Development, Counseling, Theology or a related field
    • 3-4 Years of experience in a related field
    • Counseling/listening skills, with background in higher education student development or counseling
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
    • Effective interpersonal skills including a demonstrated commitment to diversity and to creating a welcoming environment for all people
    • Strong organizational skills, with a demonstrated attention to detail
    • Ability to design, coordinate, implement and evaluate programs with and for students
    • Ability to manage complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mixing long term projects with urgent or immediate demands
    • Knowledge of student life issues with a proven track record managing student crises and mediating conflict resolution
