Treasurer guides the overall direction, coordination, and operation of the organization's treasury department. Develops the strategic vision and direction for the treasury function. Being a Treasurer directs and manages treasury activities of an organization including financial forecasting and mitigating risk. Ensures financial transactions, policies, and procedures fulfill the organization's objectives, needs, and regulatory body requirements. Additionally, Treasurer is responsible for the corporate banking, credit, and investment functions. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Treasurer manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments. To be a Treasurer typically requires 8+ years of managerial experience. Church Treasurer
4-6 hours per week. Hours are typically flexible.
Wage commensurate with experience and credentials.
This position:
- Disburses church funds, as approved;
- Prepares financial documents for the church’s governing board, the Accountable Leadership Board (ALB), staff and committees as requested.
- Balances general ledger accounts.
- Attends finance team and ALB meeting (usually 3rd Mondays).
- Serve as the back-up to run payroll as requested.
- Abides by appropriate financial controls (does not handle any incoming funds for the church).
A successful candidate has:
- Demonstrated work experience in the application of generally accepted accounting principles and standards.
- Demonstrated ability to manage financial/accounting activities in an accurate and timely manner to insure effective church operations.
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively use financial software and Microsoft Office suite software necessary to capture, maintain, and report relevant financial data.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial data as appropriate to performance of essential functions.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred but not required.
