    The South Dakota Bureau of Information & Technology (BIT) is hiring a Network Analyst to join their Pierre, SD team.

    This entry-level position assists in the design, maintenance, and support of network cabling and for the State of South Dakota wide-area network. A typical day involves visiting different offices to install or maintain copper or fiber optic cabling for network hardware, door security, and HVAC systems. As a secondary responsibility, the Network Analyst assists with switching and wireless technologies. Other functions of IT like AI, Machine Learning, Servers, Cyber Security, Programming, or Databases are handled by other members of our IT team and are NOT a part of this role. This role requires the ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds, climb 12-foot ladders, and carefully re-terminate ends on thousands of cables. Occasionally in-state travel will be required at times to diagnose problems, install wiring and hardware, and meet with clients.

The work schedule is typically Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, but we can be flexible such as allowing a modified schedule of 7am to 4pm or allowing more hours in one day and flexing out another day as needed.     The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

    A degree in Technology Engineering or related field preferred but not required. BICSI certification and ServiceNow experience is beneficial. Must have a valid driver's license.

    Knowledge of:

    • NEC and BICSI standards and safety;
    • TCP/IP and LAN protocols;
    • local and wide-area network technologies;
    • communication systems software and hardware;
    • customer service techniques and principles;
    • use of copper and fiber optic testers and toners (Fluke, OTDR).

    Skill to:

    • run and terminate copper or fiber optic cabling;
    • install conduit and raceways;
    • read blueprints;
    • troubleshoot issues.

    Ability to:

    • coordinate activities with clients, contractors;
    • communicate information concisely and accurately, both oral and written;
    • provide effective communication to clients and stakeholder;
    • work in a team environment and independently;
    • write and update technical documentation;
    • organize time and tasks.
