Volunteer Coordinator supervises and leads the daily undertakings of a volunteer program to attract, inspire, train, and deploy volunteers. Leads the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of volunteer workers. Being a Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for training and educating volunteers. Motivates and inspires volunteers to encourage teamwork. Additionally, Volunteer Coordinator evaluates and reviews volunteer schedules and makes adjustments as necessary. Ensures that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Volunteer Coordinator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions.     OVERVIEW

    Responsible for the recruitment, orientation, coordination, and retention of volunteers. Position may from time to time be stressful and require a high demand of performance. May perform other duties as assigned.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Recruit, screen, orient, coordinate and offer continuing support to volunteers
      • local volunteers: recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, troubleshooting, mentoring
      • interns: application process, training for areas, creating and overseeing appropriate projects, assigning mentors, creating weekly enrichment activities, responding to weekly reflections, effecting midterm and final reflections and evaluations, as well as future letters of recommendation
      • out-of-town short-term volunteers additionally includes coordinating possible housing, transportation and engagement with local community
      • long-term organizational volunteers such as Young Adult Volunteers, Mennonite SALT and YAMEN, Jesuit Volunteer Corp, Americorp, Peace Corp - includes filing requests, evaluating applicants, maintaining specific processes
      • one-time teams of volunteers from services, schools, or faith-based groups who either support areas or complete targeted projects
    • Onboarding, training and offering continuing support to Site Leads
      • through discussion with leadership, staff, and volunteer coordinators design new employee curriculum which includes specific trainings to be completed
    • Tracks and reports volunteers' service hours, activities and trainings
    • Collaborate with Staff and Volunteer Coordinators
      • work on creating and improving systems at the shelter for guests and volunteers
      • communicate regularly with volunteers regarding program information, scheduling, training, or other topics as needed; discuss concerns and develop solutions
      • design and oversee needed projects for volunteers and interns
    • Coordinates volunteer monthly/reoccurring meetings
    • Publishes volunteer and community communications
    • Process volunteer applications for fingerprint clearance cards as required
    • Participates in community outreach activities
    • Maintains contact with prospective volunteers
    • May drive agency or personal vehicle on company business

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Suitable work experience may be considered as transferable skills in order to meet minimum requirements of the position, and will be considered by the Corporate Director of Human Resources.

    • Bachelor Degree preferably in Social Sciences or related subject
    • Experience in migrant shelter services
    • Excellent data entry skills (speed and accuracy)
    • Proven skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Proven strong communication skills - oral and written are clear, concise, and in an organized fashion using appropriate style, grammar, and tone

    REGULATORY

    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Valid driver license, proof of insurance, and 39-month motor vehicle report
    • Ability to obtain and maintain Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card and FBI National Criminal Records History Report (employer paid)
    • Pass pre-employment drug screen (incudes marijuana, regardless of recreational use laws) (employer paid)

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master Degree in related field
    • Experience in border issues, refugee resettlement, or case management
    • Excellent data entry skills (speed and accuracy) and analysis
    • Additional years of directly-related experience
    • Bilingual, or multilingual, verbal and written
