Job Description

The Flight Nurse evaluates and treats patients prior to and during transport, ensuring patient safety and implementing life support measures as needed. Provides professional nursing care to critically injured or ill patients throughout all phases of emergency ground and air transportation. Being a Flight Nurse requires graduation from an approved nursing program. Monitors patient condition, documents nursing care, and reports patient status to clinical staff at receiving medical facility. In addition, Flight Nurse typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Typically requires Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. May require Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) certification. Requires a state license to practice. Flight Nurse's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.
