Assistant Ophthalmic Technician assists with providing technical services to patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history and conducts visual acuity screenings. Being an Assistant Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Takes measurements and documents exam results. Additionally, Assistant Ophthalmic Technician operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. May dispense contact lenses. Requires a high school diploma. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). Typically reports to a manager. Assistant Ophthalmic Technician's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.
