Forensic engineering, as an industry, is designed to rely on scientific principles to investigate all types of failures impacting service, people, and business production— from minor to catastrophic. It’s our job to analyze and determine why it happened.
We have an immediate opportunity for a Building Consultant in the Greater Chicago area. If you have 15-20 years of practical experience in contracting, consulting, and construction, experience in estimating, enjoy a challenge, and have a curious mind this is the opportunity for you.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares Xactimate estimates.
- Resolves contractor disputes.
- Handles multiple insurance appraisals.
- Prepares technical reports that compliment estimates and findings.
- Conducts on-site inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial losses.
- Conducts damage assessments from weather related events.
- Desk reviews of other contractor’s estimates.
- Critiques scopes of work.
- Interacts regularly with other professionals, including engineers, builders, architects and surveyors, and in-house project teams.
- Bachelors' degree in related field or demonstration of equivalent knowledge and critical thinking skills.
- 15 – 20 years of experience in contracting and consulting experience.
- Extensive experience in preparing cost estimates using resources such as Xactimate, RS Means, and Marshall & Swift.
- Negotiating and conflict resolution skills
- Understanding of insurance claims and appraisal process is a plus.
- Experience with commercial and industrial facilities is desired.
- Keen service orientation and ability to grasp and respond to varying and multiple client needs
- Proficient in using word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in a work capacity.
- 25 - 30%+ travel
- Ability to work in inclement weather and various environmental conditions
- Ability to work in high areas such as roofs or scaffolding, requiring physical agility, balance, and resistance to acrophobia.
