Job Description:

DEPARTMENT: ITS

BASIC FUNCTION: Team leader and Chief Architect of the Identity Management team at Fairfield University. Will guide Fairfield University through the challenges of provisioning resources, applying and removing permissions in an automated fashion, and attesting to various compliance regulations all with an eye towards providing secure access in non-traditional and geographically diverse settings. Must have excellent knowledge of ID Management Systems, Account Lifecycle Management, Federated Services, and compliance regulations. Knowledge of products such as OKTA, Sailpoint, and Microfocus NETIQ a plus.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL NEEDED: 

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent related experience.

EXPERIENCE: Three years of technical experience with at least one year of system administration or directory / email administration experience.  Must have a strong background in identity and access management (IDM/IAM), directory services and enterprise email systems.  Must have in-depth knowledge of the following core competencies:

  • Identity Management
  • Lifecycle Management
  • SAML Federation
  • FERPA, GDPR and HIPAA compliance regulations

Need to have strong project management experience with a proven track record working and completing multiple projects.  Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and be customer-service oriented toward internal staff and campus users.

REPORTS TO: Chief Information Security Officer

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

To provide administration, maintenance and support of the university’s identity and access management systems. This involves:

  • serving as the primary resource for the management of the identity lifecycles of faculty, staff, student workers, and all non-standard (Volunteer and/or Contract-Consultant Workers) information system users;
  • monitoring and repairing issues with role-based access;
  • monitoring of the automated provisioning and deprovisioning of accounts and the active sync process to discover anomalies or problems, and implementation of corrective action as needed.
  • develops and maintains processes and procedures for the provisioning/deprovisioning and maintenance of identities and computer access, as part of identity management
  • works closely with Human Resources to aid with changes to identities and user access in situations that are exceptions to standard policies and procedures. Maintains confidentiality in all such actions, when appropriate.
  • advise in the relationship between ERP data and identity and access management functionality.
  • provides reporting and analysis of data stored within the identity and access management system.
  • consolidate redundant functionality, replace older solution with top rated services
  • evaluate Fairfield Prep directory consolidation
  • implements privilege account management for administrators
  • forms relationships with vendors and stay on top of emerging opportunities and efficiencies 

To provide administration, maintenance and support of Fairfield University’s email and collaboration system. This involves:

  • adding, maintaining and removing accounts as required, in conjunction with the university’s identity and access management system and manual provisioning/deprovisioning when necessary;
  • troubleshooting messaging problems;
  • creating, maintaining and troubleshooting shared resources such as public folders, distribution groups and contacts;
  • consults with users on the need for shared accounts and public folders and creates and maintains access to them;
  • provides reporting and analysis of data stored within the email and collaboration system.
  • assists with managing Proofpoint and email security
  • evaluate Fairfield Prep consolidation
  • evaluating new designs and recommending changes as needed  
     

To provide administration, maintenance and support of Fairfield University’s directory services. This involves:

  • auditing of existing accounts against the university’s identity and access management system.
  • creation and maintenance of security groups within the directory services platform.
  • organizing data in the directory services platform into logical organizational units.
  • creation and maintenance of other data stored with the directory services platform (i.e., computer accounts).
  • provides reporting and analysis of data stored within directory services platform.
  • evaluate Fairfield Prep consolidation
  • Evaluating new designs and recommending changes as needed  

To provide level-three support for client connectivity and usage of the email and collaboration system when issues are beyond the scope of what the Help Desk and Level II Desktop technical staff can provide. This involves:

  • troubleshooting of any account issues;
  • ownership and access issues for resource accounts and public folders;
  • creating and updating user documentation;
  • consulting with users/departments on specific messaging and collaboration problems or projects and providing effective solutions;
  • using administrative tools to view/modify access permissions on mailboxes, and public folders;
  • creating mailbox backups and setting them up for other users.

To participate in the growth and development of the department. This involves:

  • attending departmental staff meetings as requested;
  • consulting with department members on administrative policies and procedures, priorities and technical issues;
  • explaining and emphasizing computer security issues;
  • using the departmental ticket tracking system to document all issues resolved for users;
  • communicating effectively with supervisor concerning pertinent departmental and university matters;
  • promoting an image of efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community and consistent with the department’s mission.

To promote safe and secure working conditions. This involves:

  • promoting the proper utilization of equipment and materials,
  • reporting immediately to supervisor any unsafe working conditions;
     

To perform other related duties as dictated by responsibilities. This involves but is not limited to:

  • AWS Support, application and desktop streaming, Office 365, Google G-Suite, SCCM, WSUS, BigFix, encryption management, endpoint device management, Proofpoint, endpoint protection, vulnerability scanning, 2 factor authentication, firewall management, incident response management, security awareness training
