What is an Anesthesiology?
Anesthesiology is a medical specialty that manages the usage of sedatives and other drugs during surgical procedures to ensure the patient is free of discomfort and safe. Physician Anesthesiologists are licensed medical doctors and are trained to manage any complications that might occur during a surgical procedure. There are numerous specialties within Anesthesiology including pediatric, obstetrical, neurosurgical and pain management. There are also Nurse Anesthetists, which are advanced practice nurses who also administer anesthesia during procedures and care for patients from a nursing perspective.
