How You Will Contribute:
Network elements such as Ciena Waveserver support an array of Northbound Interface protocols to allow communication with management systems. Reporting to the Director, Systems Architecture Engineering as a NBI Systems Architect, you will serve as a technical leader for the Northbound Interface components of Ciena's Waveserver DCI platform.
You will have a deep understanding of REST, Netconf, gRPC/gNMI, SNMP, and Websocket protocols, and how they are used by network operators to efficiently manage their networks.
You will utilize a variety of means - customer meetings, PLM discussions, JIRA monitoring, industry conversations - to understand and be able to present to others how our customer base is using our NBIs and to provide clarity as to its required evolution.
You will use your knowledge of YANG to help shape our external data models, to ensure an extensible organization that can adapt and expand.
You will use your knowledge of CLI based human interfaces to ensure our implementations are both usable and maintainable.
You will develop close working ties with your peers in other Ciena product teams and as well as Ciena NMS solutions - to ensure NBI coherence between platforms, and to ensure that best practices and learnings are propagated.
You will develop NBI roadmap, and provide guidance, defect grading, and technical leadership to the development teams.
For new NBI feature development - you will be responsible for a feature description which captures the content, for feature requirements which thoroughly detail the shape of the feature, as well as provide high level estimates of the development effort. You will review, help shape, and help define reasonable testing guidelines for all stages of testing.
You will oversee documentation of our NBI - to ensure customers are made aware of critical changes in an accessible format.

The Must Haves:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering or Computer Science
Experience with modern NBI protocols and their use in real world network scenarios
Experience with object-oriented design principles and data modeling
Assets:
Experience with REST, Netconf, gRPC/gNMI, SNMP, and Websocket
Experience with YANG in general as well as OpenConfig specifically
Experience with Declarative Config and Datastore management
Experience with gRPC dial-in and dial-out streaming telemetry
Experience using test automation for NBI profiling of robustness, scalability, etc.
Some knowledge of OTN transport technology
