PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION : The Students Accounts Clerk works independently and in conjunction with the Manager of Student Accounts to perform timely and accurate student billings. Responsible for accurate data entry and updating information for student accounts, including cash receipts and monthly transactions. Exercises independent judgment in making administrative decisions. The person in this position must be able to handle multiple and changing tasks in a highly interactive environment while maintaining composure in a fast-paced environment.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Serve as functional lead to ensure that all students and alumni receive prompt, accurate, friendly, and courteous service from the student accounts department.
Maintain tuition remission accounts.
Responsible for ensuring the accurate data entry of all charges and credits from multiple sources into PeopleSoft Data Base.
Responsible for data entry of all cash transactions on student accounts.
Responsible for updates of posted charges and credits.
Interact with students on various issues and triage student inquiries with judgment and appropriate discretion. Escalate concerns as necessary.
Advise and counsel students on payment methods to address outstanding balances.
Maintain and control confidential files and records.
Respond independently to students to resolve billing issues concerning individual student accounts.
Responds to the emails sent to the Student Accounts email address.
Provide support for telephone coverage in the Student Accounts Office.
Interact and collaborate with other campus offices (Such as, Financial Aid, Registrar, Dean of Students, Academic Deans, Faculty, Department Staff, Admissions, and Finance Office) for student accounts needs.
Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to the position as requested by the Student Accounts Manager or the Finance Office.
Help to maintain an environment where all who visit the office feel valued and respected.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES : Individual must successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or explain how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodations, using alternative skills and abilities.
Previous Student Accounts experience preferred. Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions System, or other student accounts system. Ability to use Microsoft Windows and Office with emphasis on Excel, Word and Outlook. Knowledge of the principles and practices of bookkeeping and accounting. Proficiency with mathematical calculations. Write legibly & follow written and oral instructions. Ability to interact pleasantly and efficiently with a diverse student, faculty, and staff community in person, email, and by phone. Excellent organization skills with a heavy workload. Ability to make decisions within the broad limitations of University policy. Ability to compose correspondence with correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. Ability to maintain financial and business accuracy in high stress periods. Must be extremely adaptable to system upgrades and implementations.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS :
EDUCATION : Graduation from college or any combination of education, training or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and ability.
EXPERIENCE: Five years of related experience in positions of increasing responsibility; Familiar with accounting (receivables) or bookkeeping. Some knowledge of government accounting systems and procedures.

OTHER :
HOURS : The regular hours for this position are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary due to needs of the University or the department. Regular and punctual attendance required.
CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS : Full-time, l2 month, Non-Exempt position. Benefits eligible.
