What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal position at Commonwealth of Pennsylvania?
As a Paralegal, you will be responsible for analyzing complaints and supporting documents generated by the general public, licensing boards or commission, law enforcement agencies, court systems, government agencies, National Practitioner Data Bank, and the Federation of State Medical Boards, as well as other sources to determine the necessary course of action. Duties involve initiating investigations and inspections with the Bureau of Enforcement and Investigation (BEI), and collaborating with other state agencies and state, county, and local court systems concerning actions taken against licensees or to coordinate investigations.
Diligence is exercised in the review and analysis of investigative reports to determine justification for a complaint or the violation of licensing laws, regulations, or criminal laws. You will prepare written prosecution evaluations of cases, including all key points of evidence and a recommendation for the disposition of the case. In addition, you will prepare letters of warning and hearing exhibits, as well as offer testimony at hearings when deemed necessary.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after reaching 6 months of employment. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of experience as a Legal Assistant 2; or
- Certification as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant (CP/CLA) by The National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA); or certification as a Registered Paralegal (RP) by The National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA); or advanced certification for legal professionals (PLS) by NALS, The Association for Legal Professionals; and two years performing legal support work; or
- Completion of an associate’s degree or post baccalaureate certificate in legal, paralegal or legal assistant studies or other related field, and two years performing legal support work; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
