Job Title: Wine Manager

Location: Corner Bar/ Swan Room in the Nine Orchard Hotel

Overview: We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Wine Manager to assist in the oversight of all aspects of our wine program. This individual will be responsible for managing employees, curating an exceptional wine list, conducting inventory, understanding cost of goods, and assisting in the training of sommeliers. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of wines from various regions, excellent leadership skills, and a strong business acumen.

Responsibilities:

  1. Staff Management:

    • Lead and supervise a team of sommeliers and service staff.
    • Conduct regular training sessions to enhance staff knowledge of wines, service techniques, and sales strategies.
    • Provide guidance and support to staff members to ensure excellent customer service and satisfaction.
    • Schedule staff shifts and manage labor costs effectively.
  2. Wine Selection and Procurement:

    • Curate and maintain a diverse and high-quality wine list that complements the restaurant's cuisine and ambiance.
    • Develop relationships with wine distributors and producers to source unique and sought-after wines.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, new releases, and emerging wine regions to continually enhance the wine selection.
  3. Inventory Management:

    • Oversee wine inventory levels and ensure adequate stock levels to meet customer demand.
    • Conduct regular inventory audits to monitor stock levels, identify slow-moving items, and prevent overstocking or shortages.
    • Manage the storage and organization of wine inventory to maintain quality and freshness.
  4. Cost Control and Financial Analysis:

    • Analyze pricing, margins, and cost of goods to maximize profitability while maintaining competitive pricing.
    • Implement strategies to optimize wine sales and minimize waste.
    • Prepare regular reports on wine sales, inventory turnover, and financial performance.
  5. Training and Development:

    • Assist in the recruitment and training of sommeliers and wine service staff.
    • Provide ongoing training and mentorship to enhance staff knowledge and expertise in wine service.
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the wine team.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry, preferably in a high-end restaurant or fine dining establishment.
  • Extensive knowledge of wines from various regions, including grape varietals, production methods, and flavor profiles.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in inventory management and cost control techniques.
  • Solid understanding of financial analysis and reporting.
  • Certification from recognized wine education programs (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, Wine & Spirit Education Trust) is preferred.
  • Must be of legal drinking age and possess any required alcohol service certifications in accordance with local regulations.
