Estimator
EIU, Inc. is currently looking to add a full time Estimator to our local New Orleans area team. As an estimator, you must be able to develop accurate, competitive, and profitable bid proposals for a variety of industrial electrical projects. Work experience in estimating is preferred but not required. This would be a good opportunity for recent graduate to start a career in this field. Upon hire, you will have to train at our main office in Broussard for a period of time, then you will move to our office in Metairie, LA for a permanent position.
Responsibilities / Duties
- Effectively communicates with internal customers, vendors, and clients throughout the estimating process.
- Reviews and evaluates project plans and specifications, bid documents, and other relevant documents to identify what is needed to create a bid proposal when available.
- Calculates the cost of electrical construction based on reviewing and evaluating available documents and/or site conditions.
- Consults with clients, vendors, and personnel in other departments to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Confers with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work
- Attends job site walk-throughs with other estimators as necessary to ensure that any field conditions that may potentially affect or impact the construction, prospective bid or pre-construction designs are properly handled
- Work alongside other estimators, project managers and project engineers on change orders and cost to complete estimates of ongoing projects
- Analyzes projects for value engineering options while considering specific job conditions that may affect labor and material to be purchased and installed
- Anticipates potential problems and is proactive by taking action.
- Requests material and equipment quotes from vendors and equipment suppliers.
- Reviews quotes to confirm adherence to quote specifications and accuracy of quotes received
- Develops and maintains a positive relationship with vendors and clients
- Prepares bid documents including specific scope letter for each project, evaluations with adjustments for buy-outs, labor rate, productivity, etc. and identifies any inconsistent issues, conflicts, and other problems
- Attend estimating/sales meetings, and project meetings to discuss bid status, and present/solve problems
- Meets with general contractors, owners, and site personnel, as needed
- Able to provide accurate, detailed, and competitive estimates
- Participates in sales functions and entertain clients on a limited basis
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team and capable of meeting bid deadlines
- Strong verbal and written skills are required as you will be needing to communicate with clients face to face at bid walks as well as via email correspondence
- Detail orientated and self-motivated
- Strong computer skills, especially in programs like Microsoft Word and Excell and adept at learning new software
- Personable and able to maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and clients.
- Ability to learn quickly
- Strong math skills
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States
Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineering or Math degree or work experience in industrial estimating or related field
- Experience using McCormick
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent and one of the following are required:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Math, Construction Management or related field.
- 4 or more years experience in estimating, project management or related field
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,797.00 - $109,940.00 per year
