Job Summary
Responsible for overseeing and managing the construction, installation, and maintenance of electrical transmission systems. Ensure that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to industry and organizational standards. Responsible for training and mentoring team members, as well as documenting project progress and maintaining records.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision & technical guidance to Linemen, Apprentices Equipment Operators, Crane Operators, Truck Drivers and Groundmen performing maintenance & construction on all transmission projects.
- Maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized power lines.
- Lead and teach hot stick work on energized lines.
- Conducts pre-job or tailgate briefings.
- Possess a working knowledge of all aspects of line work.
- Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
- Safely perform reconductoring jobs.
- Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers.
- Knows how to use a load bust tool.
- Identify and locate puller and tensioner setups.
- Stringing overhead wire.
- Set poles and anchors.
- Inspect PPE and rubber goods.
- Install transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches and switchgear.
- Troubleshoots problems and supervises troubleshooting in primary and secondary systems.
- Replace cutout fuses and clears faulted circuits and systems.
- Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
- Maintains company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
- Comply with company reporting procedures and complete required company paperwork.
- Coordinates and inspects the work of crew members.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Requires Class A level experience installing and maintaining Transmission and overhead power lines.
- Valid A Class CDL is Required.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Email, Abacus, Excel, KPA)
- Competent in operating ALL equipment including track bucket/digger.
- Must be able to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.).
- Understands grounding procedures.
- Certification in safe traffic control practices and public safety techniques per state and local regulations are required.
- Must be able to pass drug, alcohol, and background checks.
- Must be able to pass a physical examination.
- Able and willing to travel long distances on short notice.
- Able and willing to work for extended periods in various locations.
- Able and willing to work in all types of weather environments including inclement weather.
- Able and willing to work overtime when required.
