We made our first acquisition at the beginning of 2018 and hold a controlling interest in 10 companies across western North America. Our companies employ over 600 members. Each company is led by its own management team.
Job Description
Our holding company team is looking for a Group Controller to help support our continued growth. This person will take a lead role in our financial reporting process by ensuring the accurate and timely reporting of our consolidated financial results and implementing accounting best practices and policies across our family of operating companies. In this role, you will build relationships with and help support finance leads across the portfolio. You will also collaborate with leadership to set and execute strategic priorities for the business.
We are looking for a self-motivated, analytical, and detail-oriented problem solver who is excited about rolling up their sleeves in an entrepreneurial and high-growth environment. The role requires someone who can excel as an individual contributor, project leader, and holding company representative to portfolio employees and leaders. The Controller will report to the COO and work closely with the CEO.
Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain consistent accounting policies across portfolio companies in compliance with U.S. GAAP
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end accounting closes for portfolio companies and holding company
- Prepare consolidated financial reports for holding company
- Identify and analyze trends that require additional review or action
- Develop reports to inform portfolio company leaders of financial performance and opportunities
- Perform purchase accounting for new M&A and author technical transaction memo for auditors
- Support the financial onboarding of newly acquired companies and their finance leaders, including cash to GAAP transition
- Project manage audit and tax work for the holding company and its portfolio companies
- Support the building of annual budgets across the portfolio
- Lead and/or assist organization-wide initiatives (system migrations, improving processes & controls, compliance with accounting guidelines, metrics tracking, etc.)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, or equivalent degree, in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 4 years of public or GAAP-compliant private company accounting experience, with increasing responsibility
- Deep knowledge with U.S. GAAP
- Data and Excel mastery, able to turn numbers into actionable business insights, and proficient at modeling and budgeting
- Experience completing financial audits and tax requirements
- Ability to lead projects with multiple stakeholders
- Exceptional verbal and written communicator with ability to work across all levels of the organization
- Self-aware and collaborative team player
Preferred
- CPA or CFA certification
- Public accounting experience
- Private equity or M&A experience
