What are the responsibilities and job description for the Strategic HR Business Partner position at MARS?
The role of Strategic P&O Business Partner for the Manufacturing sites of Gainesville, Albany and Mars Supply Excellence is a critical member of the North America P&O community and the Manufacturing Site Leadership Teams. As a key member of the supply team, this Associate will contribute to the development of our long-term people strategy at their factories. This Associate will also work with their counterparts in MyP&O and the centers of expertise to shape P&O programs, processes, policies and services which ensure we meet our business goals.
The role of a Business Partner is dynamic and highly impactful. They work with leaders and line managers across the business, to ensure we achieve our business goals through our talented Associates.
They focus on several key areas: leadership effectiveness, culture, engagement, talent, organization development and change management. By drawing on their business acumen, and by leveraging data and insights, they recommend strategies and drive interventions to transform these focus areas.
Business Partners rely on many other P&O Associates and teams to do their job effectively. They share emerging business needs with MyP&O and the Centers of Expertise (COEs) so that the right systems, processes, tools and solutions are provided across the business. They also coach Line Managers to interact directly with their Associates and MyP&O on a range of topics. Strong collaboration is important as it creates a consistent “one P&O” experience for our Associates.
Business Partners coach leaders, leadership teams and where needed, Line Managers to ensure they are effective, leveraging the tools provided by Mars University and our COEs. This keeps our Mars culture consistent (based on The Five Principles, the Associate Concept and People Leadership) and creates an environment of belonging, guides our business decisions and is embedded into our ways of working.
Business Partners also provide insight to Line Managers about the engagement of their Associates and also coach them to ensure the right focus on performance and development. This can include program recommendations or interventions to improve engagement, performance and development within a specific team, function or business unit or for a particular Associate.
Business Partners lead the development and deployment of talent and organization strategies. This includes optimizing and transforming our structure, processes, systems and ways of working to ensure a fit for purpose organization.
It also includes the development and deployment of our talent strategy, to ensure we have diverse Associates in the right roles, to meet both our current and future business needs.
Lastly, Business Partners play a critical role in deploying change. By creating and deploying robust change management plans, changes are adopted faster and more effectively, and business performance is improved.

What are we looking for?
- Minimum qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Management or related field
- Preferred qualification: Master / Post Graduate Degree in Human Resources, Business, Management or related field
- 5 or more years of progressive P&O experience
- P&O Generalist experience working at senior levels across different segments
- Solid knowledge of global and local policies and practices and understand their application in solving business needs and ability to provide guidance
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Effective in building relationship at all levels
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills, using a comprehensive approach with strong attention to detail
- Good business acumen / business experience
- Strong consulting skills and ability to influence decisions to a positive business outcome
- Ability to effectively manage and work within ambiguity and prioritize on business needs and resources
What would be your key responsibilities?
- Partner with the Site Leader and P&O Supply Director to establish and deploy short and long term strategies in the areas of culture, talent, change management and organizational development to drive business success; ensure the people agenda is deployed and effectively actioned while driving a balance of business and associate advocacy
- Use Organizational Development (OD) principles and data analytics to develop and deploy rigorous people plans and strategies for demand and corporate functions that supports business growth and associate development/engagement; develop and engage in appropriate OD interventions that strengthen the health of the organization and enable a high performance culture; coach and develop Business Partners to develop and implement aligned plans and interventions within respective functions
- Work closely with MyP&O and Centers of Expertise (ex. Rewards, Talent, etc.) to collaboratively design and deploy interventions specific to site needs, or to deploy global standard processes; work closely with P&O Business Relationship Managers to continuously improve the operating model and associate experience with the model elements
- Drive efficiency across the P&O operating model by facilitating the adoption of Mars signature programs, leading and managing unit specific projects, and providing P&O support to site leadership teams
- Partner with cross-functional senior leaders to lead the people, change and culture elements of large transversal enterprise initiatives
- Act as a trusted coach and credible partner to the senior leaders within the supply function
