Description
The Machinist II is responsible for setting up and operating horizontal and vertical computer numerical control (CNC) milling machines to produce parts as needed and inspects final product for conformance to internal quality control and customer specifications.
F/T Days: Monday - Friday, 6am-2:30pm.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Sets up and operates production machinery, including horizontal and vertical mills, band saws, drill presses, grinders, and similar equipment.
- Interprets technical drawings, blue prints, and job instructions.
- Selects, aligns, and attaches fixtures, cutting tools, accessories, and other materials.
- Performs operations such at drilling, facing, boring, slotting, and tapping.
- Executes tool paths and requirements using CNC controls, and alters cutting tool feed & speed.
- Applies knowledge of mathematics and instruments to calculate dimensions and tolerances.
- Performs first articles and inspects finished products to ensure they conform to internal quality control and customer specifications.
- Identifies malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining; adjusts controls of machine to correct errors.
- Adjusts machine settings, tooling, and programs as needed to maintain accuracy and quality.
- Troubleshoots machine and tooling problems making necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Reworks and repairs parts as necessary.
- Provide technical assistance or training to operators, if required.
- Starts or restarts equipment after power outages or interruptions.
- Performs daily machine maintenance, including monitoring fluid, coolant, and oil levels.
- Follows all safety procedures and protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as a fully qualified vertical mill setup machinist.
- Ability to operate and setup Toyoda, Mori Seiki, and Makino standalone or multiple linear palletized horizontal machining centers preferred.
- Ability to operate and setup vertical mills and routers including rotary table, indexer, and probe use.
- Working knowledge of facing, boring, drilling, slotting, and tapping.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and interpret blueprints (Basic GD&T) and all applicable drawings.
- Ability to use CNC controls to execute tool paths and requirements.
- Ability to alter cutting tool feed and speed.
- Ability to run first articles.
- Ability to understand G&M codes and work to 0.001” tolerance.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, pin gauges, scale, and vision machine.
- Working knowledge of tool selection, use, setup, and maintenance, including workholding tools vise/clamp/chuck/fixtures.
- Ability to load, unload, and position workpieces.
- Working knowledge of machining operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to mill and square a block and make and use soft jaws on vertical and horizontal mills.
- Working knowledge of MRP databases, parts programs, HyperACCESS, and basic computer skills.
- Basic to intermediate math skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to rework and repair parts.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain quality standards.
- Good eyesight, hand-eye coordination, dexterity, endurance, strength, hearing, and color vision to perform the job effectively and safely.
- Ability to follow directions and work well individually and as part of a team.
- Demonstrates careful attention to detail and good attendance.
Physical Demands: Job duties are performed in an open warehouse environment with a wider range of temperature variation than would be expected in an office environment with exposure to noise, vibrations, fumes, and chemicals.
- Frequent repetitive motion of wrists, hands, fingers, and feet.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking and reaching outward.
- Occasional periods of bending, climbing, reaching over head or shoulder, and sitting.
- Frequent lifting, pushing, and/or pulling up to 20 pounds (Occasionally 21-50 pounds).
- Rarely kneeling, squatting, twisting/turning, and lifting over 50 pounds.
