JOB TITLE: Direct Support Professional

WORK STATUS: Full-time, Part-time, Hourly, Non-exempt
ABOUT US: The Moultrie County Beacon, Inc. provides services to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in residential and community settings.
ABOUT THE ROLE: Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) at the Moultrie County Beacon, Inc. assist in the implementation of individual program goals, plan and implement community based activities focusing on participant's choices, and assist and Program Director in implementation of the program
JOB DUTIES:
- Work with other agency staff to exchange information, provide advice, solve problems and maintain cooperative and efficient relations needed to accomplish established goals and objectives
- Displays positive interactions with the individuals receiving services
- Represent the agency in a positive, professional manner
- Develop, organize and implement stimulating and functional activities for individuals
- Implement the person centered plan following implementation strategies for each individual
- Provide continuous and comprehensive documentation on each outcome
- Ensure compliance with household safety practices including evacuation plans and other emergency drills
- Accurately document goals/intervention plans/u-notes
- Notify management of any individuals’ unmet needs
- Assist with personal care, cleaning, and cooking, and all other household chores
- Support individuals at community events, doctor's appointments, grocery shopping, etc.
- Build relationships with individuals to assist in advocating for the individuals' wants and needs
- Promote an atmosphere that allows for individual choice and freedom
- Respect the dignity and basic rights of each individual
- Promote a safe and clean environment
- Follow all HIPAA regulations to protect the privacy and confidentiality of individuals
- Assist and/or substitute for fellow DSPs as needed
- Other DSP duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma/GED required
- Valid driver’s license
- Successful completion of 120 hours of DSP training- Provided
- Certification in CPR/First Aid training- Provided
- Ability to relate positively to participants, their families, support people and the community
- Ability to work cooperative with peers and supervisors
- Physical ability to respond to needs of individuals, such as kneeling, bending, lifting, pulling, and/or transferring individuals
- Ability to pass a Criminal Background check and CANTS check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment Drug screening
TRAINING:
- Paid training at the rate of $17.00/per hour until DSP certification obtained
- 30 day introductory period
- 2 weeks of classroom training
- 80 hours of On-the-Job training (OJTs)
- Medication Administration training: $0.25/hour raise upon successful completion
