MEMBER POSITION TITLE: Community Program Coordinator AmeriCorps Member

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Program Coordinator will be a key part of Multicultural Coalition Inc’s (MCI) efforts to build an impactful, sustainable Inclusion in the Outdoors (IITO) program for the future. Inclusion in the Outdoors’ mission is to make outdoor spaces and activities more welcoming, inclusive and accessible for members of historically marginalized groups through research, advocacy and programming. The Program Coordinator will support that mission by working side-by-side with the MCI Program Director as an advocate for and facilitator of inclusion of members of marginalized groups, including LGBTQ and BIPOC folks, older people, and people with differing abilities. The Program Coordinator will operate under the supervision of the MCI Program Director, but will be asked to execute many tasks with great independence. The Program Coordinator will get hands-on experience with everything it takes to run a program like Inclusion in the outdoors, helping prepare them for future leadership.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure success of affinity group outings by coordinating details with clients and vendors, preparing materials and attending outings. Outings may take place in parks, at municipal facilities and on water. Accommodations will be made if member has differing skills or abilities that prevent participation in outing activities.
  • Raise awareness of issues related to IITO’s mission by gathering, editing and/or designing advocacy and marketing materials for distribution via social media, email and other channels.
  • Organize and lead community outreach activities and events to educate, engage, and promote IITO efforts, programs, etc.
  • Support transgender and nonbinary inclusion by researching local availability of all-gender restrooms at outdoor facilities, developing materials advocating for all-gender restrooms, and contacting facility owners to advocate for changes.
  • Conduct wellbeing survey with program participants and process the responses
  • Track and file IITO-related expenses and other IITO paperwork, like reports, etc. as necessary.
  • Conduct behavior and communication in a culturally-competent manner that is sensitive to the diverse needs of coworkers, clients and other stakeholders. Ask for guidance from coworkers when unsure how to handle sensitive situations.
  • Abide by MCI policies and procedures, including maintaining the confidentiality of clients served by MCI.
  • Attend and participate in program trainings on a variety of topics, including program orientation all-member team training and networking opportunities, Public Health AmeriCorps CDC Train virtual training series, community service projects, etc. These trainings occur through a combination virtual and in-person.
  • Complete AmeriCorps paperwork, such as monthly reports, feedback surveys, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion causes
  • Professional, meticulous and empathetic in communication
  • Knowledgeable or willing to learn about the local and national history of injustice related to the outdoors and efforts to remedy injustices
  • Computer-savvy and proficient in or able to quickly learn the Microsoft 365 suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams
  • Knowledgeable or willing to learn about leave no trace principles and proper outdoor activity etiquette
  • Be 18 years or older at the beginning of their service
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • U.S Citizen, U.S National, or Lawful permanent resident alien of the U.S.
  • Pass a criminal history background check

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Member Term of Service: The Member’s service term will start on 6/3/2024 and end on 8/31/2024.There’s flexibility with the position start date, however the position must start between 6/3/2024-6/10/2024.
  • Time Requirements: The member is expected to serve 300 hours, which averages 24-28 hours/week during the service term period.
  • Members will receive a gross living allowance while serving, which is paid on the 15th and last day of each month. The gross living allowance amount will be $676.47 per pay period (the amount listed is before tax deductions). Please note, there will not be an additional hourly wage or salary.
  • Segal Education Award upon successful completion of hourly requirement described in Time Requirements: The Education Award amount for this position is $1,459.26. Please note, this education award is an electronic transfer to either your educational institution, federal loan provider, etc. Members will not receive the education award via direct payment (such as check, cash, etc.).
  • Forbearance on qualified student loans while serving and interest accrual payments.
