Part Time After School Youth Worker 

Commonpoint Queens (formerly known as the Samuel Field and Central Queens Y) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community center serving over 10,000 persons of diverse backgrounds in Queens County. Commonpoint Queens provides a continuum of social, recreational, and educational services for children, families and adults. For over two generations, Commonpoint Queens, with two main locations in Little Neck and Forest Hills, Queens, has been a special place for thousands of families, older adults, children and individuals who participate in its parenting, preschool, after school, cultural arts, camping, health and fitness, social services, and senior programming. 

We are currently looking for youth workers to staff our afterschool program at Compass PS 115. Salary is $15/hour. Strong preference for candidates that can commit to five (5) days a week, in varying time slots from approximately 2:00pm - 6:00pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB 

● Aid in the supervision of children between Kindergarten and 8th grade. 

● Perform administrative duties, which include completing and monitoring daily attendance sheets. 

● Plan and help implement daily activities and programs. 

● Develop curriculum in conjunction with program staff to meet the needs of school age children. 

● Create an engaging, authentic project based learning proposal. 

● Establish SEL competencies to promote to school age children.

● Help maintain classroom space in an organized and clean fashion. 

● Chaperone youth from one activity to another. 

● Work collectively and communicate with all peer staff. 

● Attend youth worker training sessions and staff meetings. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

● Applicants are typically high school or college age. This is NOT a position for a therapist. 

● Excellent customer service skills. Must be friendly, engaging and patient with callers, clients, and guests. 

● Attention to detail and problem solving skills. 

● Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize daily workload. 

● Demonstrate cultural competency through familiarity in working with people from a very diverse number of backgrounds. 

● Must have excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills.
