Paralegal – Contracts Group
The Contracts Paralegal is responsible for reviewing and negotiating assigned contracts, as well as assisting operations with contract administration, troubleshooting contractual issues, and dispute resolution, in support of industrial and manufacturing operations, development projects, and other business units as needed.
Job Responsibilities
· Undertakes independent review and markup of contract documents provided as part of requests for proposals
· Independently reviews contracts, provides clarifications and exceptions to commercial terms, and conducts negotiation of commercial terms with clients
· Assist purchasing department, equipment group, and other internal customers in negotiating agreements with subcontractors, vendors, and other downstream entities
· Provide training and advice to project teams on managing contract requirements
· Assist operations in contract analysis and interpretation, including general contract management as well as the resolution of contract disputes, claims, and significant change orders
· Assist in claim management and action plan development
· Attend various project update meetings
· Report to Contract Manager to ensure risk profiles fit within those desired by Starcon and its parent company, Cianbro
· Interact with clients, consultants, and contractors during the performance of job responsibilities
Qualifications/ Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Paralegal certification preferred
· Minimum of 3 years work experience in reviewing contracts
· Must possess and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Must be team-oriented with a reputation for honesty and integrity
· Ability to shift easily between projects and priorities
· Ability to manage multiple deadlines
· Strong sense of urgency in the accurate completion of tasks
· Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers
Knowledge/Understanding to be Acquired
· Methods of project delivery including Design-Build, General Contractor, and Subcontractor structures
· Construction contracts primarily including Time and Material and Lump Sum
· Understanding critical contract issues: indemnity, warranty, guaranty, performance guarantees, and liquidated damages
· Understanding the elements of change orders and claim document preparation
· Ability to negotiate and mediate professional program services and contracts
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
