Position Overview
The Illinois School for the Visually Impaired in Jacksonville is seeking to hire a Support Service Worker to perform routine service tasks in the Dietary Department of the school. The Support Service Worker will assist in preparing foods for cooking and in cooking operations; assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the Dietary Department by washing tables and chairs, de-staining dinnerware, de-liming dishwasher, operating floor cleaning machines, cleaning kitchen equipment such as stoves, choppers, grinders, mixers and refrigerators. In addition, the Support Service Worker will be responsible for restocking supplies including carrying boxes of meat, vegetables, fruits, canned goods weighing up to 50 lbs., or using a handcart to push or pull heavy loads.
Essential Functions
Performs routine service tasks in the Dietary Department of the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired.
Assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the Dietary Department by washing tables and chairs, de-staining dinnerware, de-liming dishwasher, operating floor cleaning machines, etc.
Assists with training of students on Work Program or schedules. Prepares the student work area prior to their arrival.
While serving food, assists when needed with students eating skills.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of High School supplemented by six (6) months experience in the support service functional area to which assigned.
Conditions of Employment
Requires the ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
Requires skill in the basic operation of machinery and floor cleaning equipment.
Per P.A. 98-0566 requires ability to complete a food handling training course and obtain a Food Handler’s certificate within 30 days of employment.
Upon employment, employee will be subject to Tuberculin (TB) Skin Test.
Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
