POSITION SUMMARY:
The Donor Recovery Specialist Lead (DRSL) supports Phoenix Donor Services by coordinating the acquisition of donor birth tissue in compliance with Surgenex, FDA, and AATB policies, procedures, regulations, and standards. This position is responsible for approaching Birth Mothers to provide education and guidance on the donation process, obtain required consent, and determine donor suitability based on Federal guidelines. The DRSL will ensure birth tissue is recovered and packaged aseptically. The DRSL will act as an acquisition representative fostering a positive and professional relationships with donors, hospitals, physicians, and staff.
90% Travel required to medical centers throughout the United States.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Initiate and facilitate donor education with birth mothers, medical facilities, physicians, and staff.
· Obtain donor informed consent and medical & social history interview, ensuring compliance with Federal and State regulations, accrediting standards, and Surgenex policies and procedures.
· Evaluate potential donors to determine birth tissue suitability by screening and reviewing donor medical records, the medical & social history interview, other required donation forms, and any additional information utilized to determine donor eligibility.
· Facilitate the collection of donor blood specimens for testing.
· Utilize aseptic technique to obtain and package birth tissue, blood, and cultures.
· Acquire donor tissue and coordinate shipment within defined timeframes, according to governing agencies and Phoenix Donor Services procedures.
· Ensure proper labeling and identification is maintained on quarantined tissue containers.
· Accurately complete required donor acquisition documentation within critically defined timeframes
· Perform in-depth review of donor chart and ensure all donor information is accurate and complete.
· Consult with quality team regarding any concerns or questions related to donor.
· Maintain a positive, professional relationship with hospital staff and physicians.
· Identify and advise management of the need for process improvement and/or areas with concerns that may arise with hospital staff or physicians.
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate's degree or equivalent work experience is required. Degree in science related field (Biology, Chemistry, Nursing) preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 2-5 years related experience in organ procurement, tissue banking, blood banking, or birth tissue donation (preferred). Knowledge of AATB, FDA, and other state/federal regulations.
Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft office suite.
Certificates & Licenses: CTBS certification must be obtained within 16 months of hire.
Other Requirements: Fluent in Spanish (preferred).Knowledge of AATB, FDA, and other State/Federal regulations. Knowledge of aseptic technique.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work will be performed in the Labor & Delivery Department of a hospital.
· Follow appropriate dress code (PDS scrubs) and adhere to the hospital credentialing which requires up-to-date vaccinations.
· Travel nationally to collection sites in hospitals as needed.
· Travel 90% of working hours.
· Collection will take place in Labor & Delivery rooms and/or OR suites.
