Our Eastern Territorial Headquarters has an exciting new opportunity for a Digital Communications Director for the Internal Communications Department which oversees initiatives for marketing the different programs within The Salvation Army through digital means.  The Director is pivotal in the Communications Department, encompassing the core responsibility of overseeing and elevating digital channels and platforms (including social media, websites, and e-communications) across the eastern territory. This position requires an exceptional leader to oversee a team of digital content managers and creators and works in tandem with the department to organize and produce a content-sharing strategy.

Responsibilities

The individual in this role will oversee the websites of all internal program departments, social media channels (primarily SAconnects followed by program accounts), bi-weekly e-mail newsletter called ‘Good News,’ while developing content release strategies in conjunction with the video, graphics, editorial, and live events team. Digital content sharing expertise is expected to be shared regularly with the video, graphics, and editorial teams to aid in the creation process.

Master of strategic thought, adept problem-solving skills, and a profound aptitude for story-telling within the digital online community landscape is essential. This entails the conveyance of messaging centered around the Gospel of Jesus Christ, facilitated through an internal communication framework.

This position reports to the Internal Communications Director of Marketing and Branding.

*Programs departments include but are not limited to: Arts Ministries, Candidates Department, Heritage Museum, Women’s Ministries, Music Department, Youth department. 

 Develop and execute annual digital communication strategy with an emphasis on maximizing growth and engagement through The Salvation Army Eastern Territory's social media, internal websites, e-newsletters, and livestreamed events.

  • Exceptional leadership and organization skills with multitasking ability. Strategically manage and enhance websites for end-user experience.
  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive digital communication initiatives, employing a strategic approach to maximize impact and engagement of content on websites and social media.
  • Ensure alignment of engagement and content with territorial vision and Salvation Army values.
  • Recruit, develop and manage team of content creators and manager.
  • Continually audit and adjust content to adhere to consistent branding.
  • Cultivate and employ exceptional leadership skills to guide a team fostering collaborative and innovative environment.  
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices, website coding, video and photo editing. 
  • Knowledge of livestreaming software like Vimeo.
  • Generate and evaluate monthly digital engagement reports using web/social data.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of e-newsletter publication.
  • Mentor team, collaborate with other team leaders, and maintain fiscal responsibility overseeing and implementing an annual budget.
  • Collaborate on territorial-wide external digital content strategy.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and organization.
  • Ability to adapt and problem solve in the ever-changing environment of marketing.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.
  • Some travel throughout the year required to attend annual events, Travel, work flexible hours, and fulfill additional assignments as directed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field
  • 5-7 years of related digital management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain fiscal management of the program including compliance with annual budget.
  • This department works solely with MAC products and relies heavily on the Adobe and Microsoft Office suites.
  • Ability to supervise and manage a team social media and digital content creators and managers.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff and the general public.
