Duties and Responsibilities
(NOTE: ** denotes Essential Functions)
- **Serves as Policy and Data Analyst for the UH Rural Health Research and Policy Center (RHRPC) under the guidance and leadership of the Principal Investigator.
- **Assists the Principal Investigator by guiding and supporting research activities and policy initiatives in close partnership with key rural health stakeholders for the UH RHRPC.
- **Collects and analyzes data and synthesizes research findings to recommend policies relating to health equity and healthcare for Hawai'i¿s rural communities.
- **Provides support with preparing policy briefs reports, news articles, and other written correspondence.
- **Supports the PI in grant writing activities to sustain the operations of the Center.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in fields related to public health, health sciences, public policy, economics, or political science and two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for policy and data analysis, research, and writing related to public health and healthcare policy/legislation; or equivalent education/training or experience.
- Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of healthcare policy research and analysis as demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
- Functional knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with U.S. health policy and health sciences programs.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of U.S. health policy and research.
- Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
- Knowledge of public health, public policy, and government.
- Excellent organization, writing, presentation, and communication skills.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interaction with team members and OVPRI management, fiscal manager, vendors, researchers, staff from other institutions and other UH units.
- Able to manage multiple assignments concurrently and maintain a pleasant, courteous attitude when dealing with others.
- Able to solve problems using critical thinking that reflects sound judgment and analysis.
- Able to travel, as required.
- Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Desirable Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Public Health.
