In statistics, a sample refers to a subset of individuals or items taken from a larger population. Ideally, a sample should be representative of the entire population it is drawn from. While a sample and a population cannot be identical due to the practicalities of sampling, the goal is for the sample to accurately reflect the characteristics and attributes of the population it represents.
