The Athenaeum of Ohio's Lay Pastoral Ministry Program (LPMP) provides the Archdiocese of Cincinnati with one of the first and most respected lay formation programs in the United States. The program offers graduate and non-degreed programs in pastoral ministry as well as a variety of continuing education offerings of interest to adult Catholics. The LPMP serves the archdiocese through classes at our main campus in Mount Washington and at satellite locations rotating throughout a 19-county region of Ohio. The program is designed to deepen the faith of our participants, expand their practical skills and increase their ability to publicly articulate Church teaching. The four pillars of formation; intellectual, spiritual, human and pastoral, are the foundation of the program. LPMP students and graduates are men and women from all walks of life and from all parts of the archdiocese. They are a diverse group of adult learners who maintain work and family commitments while taking classes on Saturdays and/or weeknight evenings. Our graduates serve the larger Church in a variety of ways: Parents and teachers of their children Permanent Deacons Parish staff members and parish volunteers Teachers in Catholic schools Bereavement coordinators Hospital, hospice and nursing home staff and volunteers Youth ministers and youth ministry volunteers Directors of religious education and parish catechists Non-profit agency staff and volunteers Life advocates Prison ministers and volunteers Archdiocesan directors and associates Most importantly, LPMP graduates become informed and passionate witnesses serving their families, communities and workplaces more effectively. Whether they are preparing for a staff level position in a parish or non-profit agency, applying to the permanent diaconate, or searching for a clearer understanding of Church teaching, our program provides the tools needed to discern God's call and respond effectively.
