I estimate that we had a shaky 70% coverage of the CECC service territory with a lot of static. When we learned that the Arkansas Wireless Information Network (AWIN) system was available to the electric cooperatives, I contacted Arkansas Valley Communications (AVC) to help guide us through the application process and make a proposal on the equipment and installation. The process was lengthy, but went relatively well. The people at AVC were very helpful and patient in educating us and working with us to get the system that best fit the needs of CECC. Installation of the Motorola P25 APX radio equipment took three days for control stations, 56 mobiles and 18 portables. Today the AWIN/Motorola system provides 99+% coverage of the CECC service territory with superior audio quality. The portables work as well as the mobiles.
